Provider Bio
Dr. Paul Salama is a board-certified internal medicine physician with a Master of Public Health and over 15 years of experience in inpatient and outpatient care, medical education, and quality improvement. He serves as the Program Director of the Graduate Medical Education Internal Medicine Residency Program at the University of California, Riverside (UCR) School of Medicine, where he mentors and trains the next generation of healthcare providers. Dr. Salama commonly treats conditions such as chest pain, pneumonia, gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, heartburn, urinary tract infections, influenza, diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia, utilizing medications, supportive care, and antibiotics to deliver effective patient outcomes. Dr. Salama has spearheaded innovative programs such as the Next Day Clinic, significantly reducing hospital costs and improving patient flow. His leadership in quality improvement has driven advancements in medication reconciliation and resident training. Fluent in Arabic, Dr. Salama is dedicated to fostering diversity and addressing healthcare disparities through education and practice.

- Why did you go into medicine? I wanted a worthwhile daily challenge that I could discern was having a positive impact on people's daily lives.
- Why did you choose your specialty and what are a few ways specialists in your field are making a difference in the world? Internal Medicine is a thinking specialty. We take the whole person into account: their values, their dreams, their preferences, and other medical problems they might have. We try to make their lives and their health better while taking all those things into account.
- Outside of medicine, what do you enjoy doing? Reading, travelling, mentoring young people.
