Filosofía del Paciente
"I approach patients as more than just their symptoms: your narrative/story is crucial to the process of healing and recovery. I use psychotropic medications as one part of the treatment process and work closely with patients to assess if it is appropriate for them. I actively work with patients to curate a space in which patients feel empowered to share the many facets of their identity (including their racial identity, gender/sexual orientation, etc.)."

Aspectos Personales
- What languages do you speak? English and Spanish.
- Why did you go into medicine? I went into medicine for both the science and art of healing. I came from an educational background that emphasized the humanities (literature, in particular) and I became a psychiatrist specifically because it was the only specialty where the very act of a patient telling their story was both diagnostic and therapeutic.
- What are the unique skills you have as a physician? I have completed a master's degree in narrative medicine at Columbia University and have a foundational education in the humanities, specifically Spanish literature and narrative theory. Coupled with my training as a psychiatrist, I am qualified uniquely to elicit and co-construct patient narratives in their healing, recovery, and treatment process. I like to say that in the sciences one receives their PhD for solving a problem and in the humanities one receives their PhD for problematizing a solution. My background and training in both science and the humanities, prepare me to work with you carefully to assess what is the "problem" that needs to be solved and what "solutions" have been problematic.
- Why did you choose to practice at UCR Health? I chose UCR Health for its emphasis on community psychiatry and commitment to serving those who live in the Inland Empire.
- Outside of medicine, what do you enjoy doing? Taking care of houseplants, writing.
