Men’s Health Awareness Month
Ever heard of Movember or No Shave November? It’s for Men’s Health Awareness Month!
Each November the Movember campaign is launched globally to bring awareness towards men’s health. The campaign includes “No Shave November” where people are encouraged to grow out a moustache and beard for the entire month as a way of supporting the movement.
One of the biggest issues Movember aims at improving is the ability for men to seek help. Statistics show that women are more likely to be diagnosed with depression however, men are three to four times more likely to die from suicide. This occurs because men are less likely to reach out for help when they are struggling.
With this, men’s health is often undermined due to the social stigma to “tough it out” but it is important to recognize that a man’s physical and mental health is just as important as anyone else’s. Since 2003, the Movember campaign has funded more than 1,250 men’s health projects around the world. Help change the status quo and take action for men’s health by sharing the hashtag #Movember this month.
If you or anyone you know is experiencing suicidal thoughts please call the Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
